So good with the reflections Astrid.
Picturit: Thank you, Frank. One of those rare days without wind..... This was last Wednesday, three days later we had a flying storm. We also have the saying "silence before a storm".
Astrid.
Quels magnifiques reflets !
Picturit: Thank you, Martine. That was so special.
Astrid.
Those trees are a lot of work, aren't they?! Great image - I like the composition with the reflections!
Picturit: Indeed they are, Elizabeth and every year of every other year they have to be pollard. The branches become to heavy and might tear up the tree. Old willows tend to be hollow inside.
Astrid.
In many countries it is women who do the heavy lifting, especially in Asia. It is therefore only fair to show "also" men at work. Especially when they are beautifully reflected in their work. LOL!
Picturit: I know what you mean, Marie. If often bathers me that often in those countries you see the men sit on a chair with some drink : trying to save the world" and their women are working their tail off. And when the men comes home, "there must be food on the table"....
I have to tell you something funny. I used to park our car in the nearby public parking place and I was washing the windshields for we wanted to go for a ride. A gentleman parks his car close to mine and gets out (I was waiting for this to happen wink ) the man gets out and sees me washing the windshields, he asks me if I have time to do his car as well. I smiled at him and asked him to show his hands. He did and I looked and them and said: "from my point of view there is nothing wrong with your hands so their might be no problem if you do it yourself".... He laughed and laughed and he sure was a good sport!! He could take a joke.
I love taking pictures of working men.... we have a lot of them smile..

Judging by the amount of growth, it looks as if they pollard annually, Astrid? I like the spacing of the men and the trees in this photo, intensified by the reflections
Picturit: Indeed, Lisl, they do this once a year and sometimes once in the two years if they have other purpose for the branches. The branches are used for fences and in mats that they use to strengthen the dikes. My guess id the willows next to a road are done annually.
Astrid.
This came out so well, Astrid! So glad we stopped so you could take it. The red, orange and yellow colors really add extra life to this double-the-pleasure image.
Picturit: Indeed, Ginnie. Sometimes I just forget to stop and take some pictures. Thank you for the reminder, this one was too good to pass.
Thank you.

An annual task Astrid, this has to be done of the Somerset Levels near Glastonbury every year too..
Picturit: It is, Chris and it is a lot of work. We have groups of volunteers that do it and last week when I was in the Biesbosch I saw two trucks from the Salvation Army and a bunch of men helping, they had a great time working!!
Astrid.

I know how important waterside maintenance is to keeping Holland running like a well oiled machine Astrid.
Picturit: I know there are laws to maintain things like this and in that case, yes they do well.
Thank you.
Astrid.
Wat een schitterende foto.
En de weerspiegeling is prachtig, zo glad is het water !!
Picturit: Dat was echte uniek en zo'n prachtige rit langs de Vlist.

No cutters in view, only inspectors. Great picture.
Picturit: One was working and later they helped the one working.
Astrid.
There are many trees in this country that are pollarded every year. Great reflection, the whole centre of the shot is framed by the unpollarded trees.
Stunning symmetry and clarity i this reflection. Friendship

een bijzondere mooi opname

fijne avond
great mirror image Astrid... i don't know why the have to trim back the willow trees that much....petersmile
Such an interesting image with the men and the stumpy trees, Astrid! The reflections are great too smile
Picturit: Thank you, Martin. A ritual that I love to watch and how they do it. I was lucky that day without wind.
Astrid.
yes, i imagine this is a common scene, Astrid. although i think in the villages around Venlo, the residents perhaps did it themselves and not a crew in vests. maybe i am recalling that incorrectly.
Picturit: It might be that this is a public road and the township takes care of that, if you have willows on your property you do it yourself, or by a group of volunteers.
I always am attracted to how that works, pollarding.
Astrid.
Fabulous reflection smile
