photoblog image ....Milk factories.....

....Milk factories.....

I love to see cows in the meadow on my bike rides.

I often stop to have a conversation....

If you want to see what I saw, here is a 360 degrees point of view, thanks to Google-Street-View.

I love it, Astrif.

There are big dairy farms all around where I am staying at the moment...herds of 400-500 cows peacefully cropping grass on the gental hills.
Picturit: Thank you, Ray. I always like it when I see them walking around in the meadow or just lying around. That are big farms which you describe, our problem is the space and some laws about quantity of manure.
Astrid.
Beautiful shot, Astrid! I'm so glad you stop to visit with them! What a lovely intersection! I can just picture you peddling down that lane!
Picturit: I often stop to take pictures. On the bike I see sometimes odd things I have to capture. In a while I will make a series out of them. This was a new road to me and hardly any car....
Astrid.
Bien vu avec le reflet. Jolie photo de ce troupeau.
Picturit: Thank you, Martine. The weather was rather good, not too much wind which made a good reflection.
Astrid.
I just LOVE when you stop to talk to the cows, Astrid! I wonder if they know how beautiful they are, especially with their reflections?!
Picturit: Cows always fascinate me, Ginnie. They look so quiet and content. I will ask them the next time we meet. Probably they know they are beautiful wink...

These look to be happy cows Astrid. I enjoyed looking at the 360 degree shot..
Picturit: I often will look back on streetview or before I try to find a place to go, first do the route on StreetView. I like the smaller roads to ride my bike.
The 360 degrees view is from October 2009, no cow to be seen, they are inside.
These cows are very happy, Chris.

This is a wonderful image, esp. with the reflection of the cow in the canal - I love the Dutch landscape!
Picturit: I love this kind of landscape very much, Philine. Even as flat as flat can be, there is always something to see.

Lovely, Astrid. I can imagine how your conversation might go.......
Picturit: Thank you, Lisl. We talked about the weather and what kind of skin-care she uses, her skin looks so soft....
Astrid.
Sourires pour le titre ....j'aime la vache qui se mire dans l'eau !
Picturit: These are kept for the milk, Claudine. I don't know if this farmer makes his own cheese from it, but most likely the milk is used for cheese.

Picturit: Thank you kindly, JP.

Ha ha...jouw koeien en heel wat meer !!
Mooi met de reflectie/spiegel van de koe die wil weten of haar haar goed zit ;-0
Picturit: Je vroeg me wanneer ik "mijn" koeien liet zien...tataaaa... wink.. grapje.

Haha!! So that is where milk comes from smile They are such inquisitive animals and often join in if I'm walking through their field. I love the reflection of the car in the water. I see each cow with a collar; I expect it is all linked to the milking parlour equipment and perhaps to any supplements, too.
Picturit: Don't you just love it. I know of kids from Amsterdam they taken to a farm to show what cows are.... and where indeed milk comes from.... in that regard we are lucky to live around here. Now that you mention the collar. I notice that these don't have those awful ear-tags... maybe this is better and there is more information on it and it works with scanners. I will pay attention and maybe one day I see a farmer and can ask about the tags.

I bought old Beemster kaas as I was recently in Nederland, surely made from the milk of such healthy cows. I like reading your Dutch comments to marjolein! Sorry, I don't see any car reflection in the water.
Picturit: Oude Beemster kaas is great cheese, Philine. I am sure that a lot of cheese is made with "free-range-cow-milk". Marjolein is a Dutch lady who also does a lot of bike riding and I often have some more information... Alan "mis-spelled" car...car should be cow.... I think that happened with the speed of typing and the mind going somewhere else.... So there is only the cow-reflection.
Thank you, Philine.
Yesterday was really really raining here and lots of rain and thunder here. One boy was hit by lighting and is in hospital sad
Astrid.
Lovely place to be a cow. grin
Picturit: I think so too, Bill. I can tell that they are happy here....
Astrid.
A very fine picture Astrid, the reflection is very good. I like the link, Holland may be generally flat but that particular area is quite delightful, even I could cycle there as it is nice and flat smile
Picturit: Thank you, Brian. This area is below sea-level also and that makes it even more flat. In the east of the country it is more hilly.. I always pay attention what direction the wind comes from, I go towards the wind and come home wind in the back...smile
Astrid.
I do understand as I stopped on Monday to take photos of my favorite cows. I love Holsteins.

Here, by law, all waterways are fenced with a buffer zone away from all farm animals. I can understand you would have a problem.
Picturit: Holsteins are beautiful. I love the black and white...
These waterways are the "fences", so the farmer only needs a gate.. However there is a law that everybody that own land with a waterway around it has to empty all the waterways from plants in autumn, to make sure that the water flows free. Fascinating to see how they do it.
Cows/sheep are used to these waterways and don't walk into the water...

Astrid.
I adore that reflection! Fabulous image!
Picturit: Thank you, Ruthie. This is "Holland"....
Astrid.
That's a lush looking meadow!!
Picturit: Don't you just love it.... I never get bored riding the bike here.

One day someone will suggest that cows are paid for their milk. Astrid.
Picturit: That will be the day, Chad.... grin.

That cow will soon see herself in the reflection and probably will stop producing milk for a week, out of fright.
Picturit: HA HA HA....She will jump around like mad and will give "karnemelk" (buttermilk) in stead of normal milk...
Astrid.
What a lovely peaceful scene this is, Astrid. It must be a joy to bicycle in Holland and come upon these photo opportunities.
Picturit: Thank you, Beverly. It is a joy each time I go out. So much to see even if it seems to look "all the same"... it are the details that I love.
I will come up one day with a series about the bike rides I do and the things I see.
