I know this is not the best one, but it is taken: hand-held, my breath in, fingers crossed, the only thing I could not do is.... to stop my heart beat ...... the rain was still flying all over the place, but I gave it a try.......

Going home........by bus

Very steady hands! This works quite well by any standards. I like the green bus. Somehow green is a startling color for a night shot.
Picturit: Yes Martin, I was there for about half an hour walking and waiting for the bus, finaly I made up my mind to just grabb my camera, make sure the rain was not too heavy and I just took two shots, I was kind of surprised it turned out this way, I don't have a stabelizer or what so ever, I am so glad with my 'steady' hands....
You have very steady hands Astrid - and it's a very nice picture too!
Picturit: Thanks Chris, I was very glad it turned out this way.
Very nice shot with those warm colours.
Picturit: That was what surprised me too, it was a 'cold' evening but at the busstation are those yello/orange lights, gave the warm glow.
I must say, Astrid, that when you hold your breath and cross your fingers, you have very steady hands. I have seen them in action.
And now I know exactly where this is! While I hopped on the train to the left, out of the picture, you hopped on the bus. I am glad to say it's not always raining when we go through this ritual in Utrecht, but THAT day, it really was. I LOVE that you captured this warm memory in that inclement situation! I especially love that you caught the corner of the Gorinchem sign!
Picturit: Last Tuesday we finally had that dry day we wanted....it was great to see the Dom from a distance now, we walked the platform so now you know where we have to meet for the next time
It has a postcard feel - the glow of the night lights, the colors, the whole city-scape.
Picturit: Thanks Jewlya, I am pleased you like it.
Inspite of all you said, it still is a very nice picture
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kind words, much apreciated, thanks for visiting, Astrid
You did well fellow musketeer, but don't hold your breath for to long!!!
This well taken Astrid and your trying is far better than mine. Have a great weekend-allfor one and one for all
Picturit: No I won't Tracy, the purple of my face does not really go with my red jacket
and a wonderful effort it is Astrid the grain gives it atmosphere for me,well done
Picturit: Thanks Tim, we have to take our chances when given I always say, and the grain........well it adds, like you said, Astrid
Nice capture. The noise/grain does add to the warm feeling of this image.
Picturit: Thank you Kunle, sometime we take advantige of the high ISO.
Very steady hands you have Astrid. Shooting when breath holding is not easy and I know what I am talking about!
Fine shot. Well done
Picturit: Thanks Richard, I think you hold your breath at Fontainebleau castle too?? They worked out very fine
very well held then Astrid, great sharp result. mal
Picturit: Thanks Mal for your kind words, most apreciated, Astrid
a little blur every now and then is just what we all need
Picturit: I agree with you, not every shot has to be crisp it sometimes is about the atmosphere...I liked the view I had, while waiting for my bus...thanks Kahtryn as always, Astrid
I like the big sign telling us its a bus. I like this picture. looks like it was raining or had been . nice shine on the road.
Picturit: Mick, it had been raining and storming all day, Ginnie and I had to stay inside for many hours, not that we minded though... this was later in the evening when I had to take a bus home...it takes me one hour, but it stops at almost every heystack
When I was taught to shoot a rifle, I was taught to slowly let my breath out to shoot (after aiming). I also do so with the camera and it works most of the time. While you breathe out you remains the most steady.
Your effort at steadiness worked very well. So see the above as an (maybe) easier alternative. Nice name for the bus - Conexxion.
Picturit: Thanks Louis, thank you for your advice, I think it will work too, I have done some rifle shooting at a farm in Canada, I did not miss a thing and I did not turn purple
It's worked out very well and I'm impressed you have got it that sharp at 1/8 second! I rather like the grain from the high ISO too.
Picturit:
I love the big red sign that tells us it's a bus. Lovely capture Astrid. I could never have held it this steady.
Picturit: Thanks Aussie, I am glad I can read, otherwise I would have missed my bus
Given the conditions you did really well - the high ISO is giving a very grainy look to the photograph which I think works to your advantage. Have you ever tried just putting the camera on a wall or bench, focussing and then using the self timer for a long exposure. Gets over not having a tripod and is steadier than hand held.
Picturit: Thanks Mike for your advice, yes I have done this a few times, but in this case, it was wet all over the place and it was really windy, I did have my tripod with me, but I was afraid the rain would 'hurt' my camera, I even have a remote controle with my camera, that works great
Amazing for hand held!
Picturit: Thank you Ruth as always, have a nice weekend.
Pretty good for hand held - you haven't got any blur, just noise from the high ISO. Lovely glowing colours.
Ingrid
Picturit: Thank you Ingrid for your kind words, the glowing colours was one of the reasons I wanted to give it a try, I really enjoy the morning before the sunrise and the dusk/evening, it makes me to try out things
Can't believe you took this handheld... amazing. If I tried that, it'll be a messy blur
Picturit: Noa, thank you for your kind words, please see what Louis gave as a solution to get the 'problem' solved, Astrid
PS Thanks for the help!
Picturit: You are so welcome, any time
These are buildings of beauty..
What a lovely scene to say goodbye to!
Picturit: Thank you Jen and thank you for visiting, Astrid
You succeeded very well, the graining gives an extra atmosphere, very well done, you could apply for a job as a sniper
Picturit: I might keep that in mind, I did some riffle shooting at a farm in Canada......
