Three heads on a plate...very good!
Picturit: Don't you love it, Ray. Philine knows who this is...

Astrid.
Well that's something you don't see every day. Nice shot in B&W Astrid!
Picturit: You can say that again, Elizabeth. And if we did then there are a lot of people walking around with no head. I know one who does and you know him too.... he lives in a white house somewhere on Pennsylvania Avenue.... not with a white fence around it though...

seems like a strange thing to collect....Each to his own, Astrid smile
Picturit: Apparently this is Sigrid of Sweden, came from England and what happened along the way, I am not sure....smile

Astrid.
Funny title... smile
Picturit: I know, I could not come up with something else. It looks like he is collecting heads, Larry... he has a whole collection..

Astrid.
Oh my, Astrid. I had totally forgotten that one. I know there's a story there!
Picturit: And there is, Ginnie. Philine, who else, came with the name and I googled some more....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden

I would dearly like to know what this represents, Astrid
Picturit: Philine came up with the name and I did a google, Lisl. Guess what he came from Glastonbury and went to Sweden... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden
The things we see.

A basket full of heads. I wonder what he's going to do with them, play football?
Picturit: Yes I think so,Chris. The Three Countries Cup.... and Chad is referee.... there are some spares if Bill kicks one head over the fence...
Astrid.
I think I see too many movies..... grin...

C'est un peu macabre avec toutes ces têtes coupées.
Picturit: Martine, sometimes I like creepy... and this was on a church, so that tells you about how cruel 'the saints' are as well.

Oh, creepy - this is Sigrid, apostle of Sweden: https://web.archive.org/web/20060220054958/http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saints13.htm
Picturit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden
Sometimes I like creepy, Philine. I am sorry that your links did not work, but I found this Wikipedia. Thank you for pointing out who this is. I knew you would come up with a name. Thank you, Philine.
astrid.
Très origilale cette sculpture , je ne l'ai pas vu souvent !
Très belle photo
Picturit: Not with 3 heads on a platter. This is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden
I found out from Philine.
Astrid.
Strewth what on earth has he been up to Lady P? grin
Picturit: I think he was waving around with some sharp knife from the kitchen and now he does not know what to do with the heads... make soup??
Astrid.

"Entrusting the administration of Växjö to Unaman and his brothers, Sigfrid left to spread Christianity in Denmark. While he was gone, however, a local greedy nobleman Gunnar Gröpe gathered a group of pagans together to kill Sigfrid's brothers and ransack the church in Växjö. When Sigfrid returned from his mission, he found his nephews' heads in a weighed tub that was at the bottom of Lake Helgasjön near the church. The bodies were buried deep inside a forest. According to Sigfrid, the heads still possessed the ability to speak and told him the names of their murderers. Sigfrid glorified God that He allowed Unaman, Sunaman, and Winaman to become martyrs."
Picturit: Thank you, Philine.

Oh horrors! That's put paid to their good looks.
Picturit: Indeed so. It is very fascinating that these so called 'saints' are often so cruel with chopping off heads, like 'YOU listen to me or else'..chop chop chop.....
Astrid.
Daar hebben aardig wat koppen gerold ?
Toch een mooi en vredig geheel
Picturit: Ja inderdaad. Ik verbaas me vaak over the gruwelijkheden die er plaats vonden in de kerk....niet echt respect voor de 'levenden'...
Astrid.
By coming on later in the morning I get the benefit of Philine telling us what this staue is all about in her usual efficient fashion. It is a fine, if somewhat macabre, sculpture.
Picturit: I knew the moment I posted, Philine would come up with the name and she did. I found some more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden
I know it is macabre, but isn't that true for medieval times and church, no respect for the living souls...
Astrid.
Ha ha, ha! With some of the photoshop skills around here, I can imagine a few versions of the platter.
Picturit: I know, Mary.... I might go to prison when I do so, but wouldn't that be a joke HA HA HA...
Astrid.
You show one and I show many today, what a coincidence
Picturit: smile I know and I liked the coincidence, Martin.
Astrid.
Bring me the head of John the Baptist... and a couple of other fellas.
Picturit: ..... the rest of his family.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigfrid_of_Sweden

Astrid
Disturbing title considered the image.
Picturit: I know, Claudio. Sometimes I have 'different' tittles, English is my second language and I love to play around with it...

What a curious statue. I wonder what it means.
Picturit: I know, Cherry. It had something to do with three nephews and theirs heads cut off and he gave pardon to the ones who did it...

Astrid.
Perfect for the idiom..."serving a head on a plate!"
Picturit: Thank you, Robin. I think I was intrigued by the heads on the plate. In the arch of the main door of the Notre Dame in Paris, there is a statue like this with his own head in his hands. As a kid I noticed the 'saint' and ever since I try to spot statues with/without heads, or heads on platters... Am I normal... what is normal wink

Astrid.
