When I was a child, these cans were much in evidence for milk and cream, Astrid, but the collection moved to bulk in the 1970's.

Congrats...
Picturit: A lot of people now use them as a flowerpot or just decoration.
Thanks smile
Astrid.
I like this scene Astrid... i thought that they still picked up the milk cans by boat along the canals until i read your explanation...Duhhh!

Congratulations on your 500th post Astrid... it has been fun visiting your site over the past few years....petersmile
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kind words. In earlier days, the boats would collect these milk cans and take them to the milk factory.

I love milkcans - and it is a pity that they are not used now umless as flowerpots ..and -Astrid's milkcan will remain for sure on this blog - my congratulations to you!
Picturit: Thank you so much Philine. I think it is a pity, however, these churns weigh a ton, when filled with milk. And I think they are difficult to keep clean.

And to think we had just passed the field of cows before we saw these milk cans in Giethoorn! I love it! And congratulations, indeed, on your 500th post. Ik ben zo trots op jou! smile
Picturit: Thank you so much, MLS. I enjoy posting on Shuttercahnce. It was so fun to see all the cows in the field. I loved our POV from the boat.
It was a great day and a nice remembrance.
Astrid.
I remember these well, and I also saw Herman's Hermits on stage in the 60s. They were awful!

Well done on the 500
Picturit: smile Thanks Bill. Aren't they wonderful awful, so sweet grin....
Astrid.
The mild cans are in great demand for decorative artists who paint country scenes on them.

Five hundred posts! I still remember your first. I emailed about the similarity of our names and you thought I was mad at you. By now you know I certainly am not.
Picturit: grin...tongue... My English was not that good and I realy thought I had offended you and that you were mad. I know you are a wonderful person and a great friend. Isn't it funny how things work out over the years. I never regret one second of it.
My mom once painted a windmill on a milk can. It is too bad I had to give the milk-can back to the owner.
I do have pictures of it.
Thank you Mary!!
Astrid.
Congratulations on the 500 Astrid. I like the churns (that's what we call them), was this at the place Ginnie is featuring on her latest blog posting, somewhere I would just love to go after seeing a T.V.programme about it recently?
Picturit: This is indeed that Giethoorn town, you send us the YouTube of it.
It is an amazing place and in summer there are 700 boats in the water. We were so glad that we went off season and still have good weather.
Friday I have another post of the Giethoorn.
One day I might enjoy this....

Picturit: Dank je wel. Wat een lekker zeikmuziek hè. Hoort wel een beetje bij die tijd.
