Ginnie (link) took this picture during daytime on our picture hunts together,
the 16th of April I took a workshop night photography
this is how it looks during night time ( 23.30 11.30 P)
I know I made one mistake…
the aperture should have been at least 20,
than the stars get out…….
Dorien thank you for your many tips

Well...I think it is brilliant. The two shots show how different the place can look in different lighting conditions. The muted detail of the brick-work in the shade of the bridge-arch present a wonderful counter-point to the brilliant lighted area beyond.
Love it, Astrid.
Picturit: I have been walking in Utrecht many times, day time and night time, it is so much different, it was for me so fun to have Ginnie's picture 'remade' in a 'night' version, this was taken 15 minutes before midnight...it is a not a normal time for me to be out in some dark alley
Astrid.
I recognised this place straight away no need to look at the link for me Musketeer, your days out stick in my mind as if I were with you
This to me looks perfect, I am so proud of you mijn vriend your night shots are superb, words fail me I know that is not normal for me!!!
Picturit:
Have a great weekend and please take care... Astrid.
I Love it just a Super Photo
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kind words.
It was my pleasure to be out there, have a great long weekend Vintage Astrid.
I just came from tim's blog and he also has an excellent night shot. Personally I don't think it is always required for the stars to come out - you can also confuse the other detail by having them (take attention away).
Those dustbins on the canal bank - I think there are Martians in two of them
Picturit: Louis, I had those Martians spotted, I was afraid I was 'beamed up', so I took this shot and made my way to the parking garage.....it were the longest 8 seconds of my life...
have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Wonderful night shot Astrid. Starlights would have taken away the nice softness of this image! I love the tones.
Picturit: I think you are right, in this way it is possible to see untill the far end of the Gracht.
Have a nice weekend. Astrid.
The star thing has been overdone over the years Astrid..there must be thousands of starburst filters lying unused in drawers! I like the lights as they are here and this is a lovely picture
Picturit: Do you know I don't own one filter (yet), it is just one camera and one zoom lens....tripod and remote and a lot of fun and love for the capturing pictures/photographs, I think the less I have the more challanging it is for me....I never walk away for one challange, what's so ever....
Thank you for your kind words, it was all my pleasure to try to make it work. Have a great weekend. Astrid.
I like the effect of coming out of the dark into the light, and the streaky reflections are very nice.
Picturit: Thank you Nigel, the place where I stood, was really dark and I had to make sure I did not go any more near to the water, it was a real challange.
Have a nice weekend, Astrid.
I love these night shots Astrid. This is really very good. Interesting to know about the aperture and the stars - I didn't know that.
Ingrid
Picturit: I just found out that night, Martin had told me some time ago, but now I 'saw' what was meant, I am pleased you like this one,
have a great weekend. Astrid.
you are so lucky to have this on your doorstep. thank goodness they have not chopped down those trees. and as for martians in bins - the martians I have seen have always been green - but then this is Astrid's turf so they Would be BLUE wouldn't they!
Picturit: it is about 30 miles from my doorstep....I do have a canal in front of my house though, I will get some pictures of that soon.
Martians are BLUE to me...you are so right, when they see green, than they have been eating to much peas... Have a great weekend. Astrid.
Very good photograph Astrid - looks like the course has been very useful for you. The yellow / green glow gives a very melancholic air to the scene. Lok forward to more! Have a good week end ;o)
Picturit: Thank you for this nice compliment, it was so much fun and educative for me, I have some more to come in a few weeks,I do hope you will have a great weekend too,
Astrid.
Wonderful. It's interesting to compare the two photos, both are nice but I've got to admit that I like this night time picture much better ... but I've always been fond of pictures that play with lighting.
Picturit: Thank you so much for your dear words, I love the night and the lighting too, Ginnie's picture is different but the perfect atmosphere for that place.
At night it is so different. Have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Astrid - this is stunning! I love this one (and it is a likey for me)!
Picturit: Martie, your words made my day, this is a big compliment, thank you,
have a great weekend, Astrid.
Astrid.
This is a charming and delightful night photograph, Astrid 2008. I love the framing formed by the arch of the bridge and the various points of light, either direct or reflected in the water. The colours are good too. I like the little curve of light at the far right underside under the bridge.
hartelijke groeten van de vaste shriftglinken...chad
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kind words, Chad, -in-front-of-a-computer-, I am pleased you like it, please do have a nice weekend, I do hope I can find some time to have a look at your too-fast-changing-post....
Thank you so much for your hartelijke groeten, een heel goed weekend en niet te veel schapen tellen, daar val je van in slaap. Astrid.
Nice picture! Great light again!
To make te photo stronger than I would cut some lines from the left, right en top side.
Picturit: Thanks Robbie, I will see if your suggestions will work,
have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Excellent crisp shot Astrid. Keep them coming.
Have a great weekend. Bernie
Picturit: Yep almost weekend, I will try to get some more in a few days.

Astrid.
Your getting really good at this night stuff Astrid. This is delightful with loads of detail, even in the shadows. Well done. Brian.
Picturit: Thank you Brian, this was so nice to make, I have been here with Ginnie a few weeks ago, never realising that I would be able to make it a nightshot once.
Have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Lovely framing Astrid and terrific reflections in your night picture ...I think you are the star. richard
Picturit: Richard, your words make me blush, thank you so much for your dear compliment.
Have a great weekend. Astrid.
This is a well worked night shot, Astrid. You are right about the aperture, but I don't think the soft light really hurts this shot. Have you experimented with nighttime HDR? It's fun!
Picturit: I haven't been able to do HDR at all, after september I will have lots ot time to try these kinf of things, thank you for your kind words.
Have a great weekend Astrid
This is a glorious image Astrid
Picturit: Chris your words mean a lot to me, thank you so much, it was all my pleasure.
Have a great weekend. Astrid
What a very accomplished image. Love the reflections on the water and the differing light levels. Just lovely. :o) John
Picturit: It was just so fun to see that it worked, we had wind still weather, even a small moon was out, Have a nice weekend.
Astrid.
oh do i like this Astrid, a wonderful night shot indeed, love the view on the other end of the tunnel, excellent stuff and you have a great weekend Astrid
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kind words, I am so pleased with your compliment, I do hope you have a great weekend.
Have a great weekend. Astrid.
Nice night shot Astrid! Good control of lights and colors. In that time of night the color of tree is shown brilliant.
Picturit: Thank you so much, this was taken at 23.30 hour, it is amazing that there is so much light at that time of night.
Have a nice weekend Astrid
Gorgeous golden light, Astrid. I like how there is an almost electrical or occilating movement to the lights.
Picturit: Thank you so much for your kin words, it is amazing how much light there was at that time of night, 23.30 H, 11.30P
Have a nice weekend. Astrid
Night and Day...Day and Night. Now you've got me singing, Astrid. Just think. Between the two of us, we could be a song.
I love it!!
Picturit: You do the singing I will listen...
Have a great weekend. Astrid
excellent!!!
the detail is really nice.
Picturit: Thank you Simon, it was my pleasure to have captured this one, thanks for visiting.
Have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Oh such pretty soft reflections. Such beautiful clarity. Next time the stars will "come out" because you learned something.
Picturit: You are so right here and maybe I don't want stars all the time, for this one, 'no stars' is indeed better.
Have a nice weekend. Astrid.
Mooi beeld! Utrecht, Oudegracht??
Picturit: Yes Oude Gracht, taken at 23.30 at night after a workshop nightphotography,
loved it. Astrid.
Nicely framed!
Picturit: Thank you, and thanks for visiting,
Astrid.
Stunning shot Astrid
Picturit: Thanks Mick, it was great to be here at this time of night, normally I would be in bed..
Astrid.
Love it, love it, love it!

I absolutely love this. Looking at your photos..I'm just itching to travel to the Newtherlands where you live and your photos are taken.
Picturit: Marcie, thank you so much for you compliment, maybe one time you will be able to visit.
Astrid.
wonderful shot and thanks for sharing the "lights to stars" info...never knew that but makes sense so will have to try it
Picturit: You are so welcome, this is what I like about SC, we share information to all and we can use it all...
Good luck trying it. Astrid. |
