photoblog image ....Monument....

....Monument....

This loader (real size) is made out of concrete and is a monument.

It tells the story of high water in 1993, the evacuation of more than 250.000 people for high(er) water in 1995 and in 1997 the finishing of making the dikes higher.

In the Netherlands we have a Water Safety Policy, it keeps people thinking about how to stay safe from water 24/7....... and making sure that in case of extreme drought, like we have now, to keep an eye on the dikes and repair where needed right away.

to be continued.....

Isn't that great, how unusual, b/w works well with it Astrid.
Picturit: Don't you just love it to found something totally out of the ordinary...
Astrid.
Very cool processing.
Picturit: Thank you, Michael. I thought this was the only way to do.
Astrid.
Il est très bien fait, on dirait un vrai.
Picturit: Thank you kindly, Martine.
Astrid.
What an amazing monument! With all your peddling around - I'm sure you would be able to find and report any problems. I really like your treatment on this photo, Astrid!
Picturit: grin... I might be of help, just give me a helmet with a "turning light and horn" and they know if I find something grin.....
It is fun to take these rides. I found another ride to check out some bunkers and fortifications of the WWI & WWII
To be continued wink
astrid.
I want you to show me this one day, Astrid! Someone did a fantastic job, making this out of concrete. And yes, right now we're on the "extreme drought" side of the equation!
Picturit: I think I know where this is, Ginnie. We will walk over here, for it is a "bikes only" road, but close enough to the "real road". They make overtime right now to make sure everything stays okay with the dikes and that they are fit enough to keep the water out, once the river starts filling up with water again.

This is a very impressive sculpture Astrid. Keeping your dikes in order is - obviously - a vital thing..
Picturit: Indeed, Chris. It is such fun to ride my bike and find these things. The dikes are our life...
Astrid.
Bravo pour le travail , on croirait voir un vrai tracteur ..belle photo
Bonne journée
Picturit: Thank you kindly, Claudine for your kind words. It is my joy to ride my bike and find these finds...

can imagine your people are one hundred per cent aware at all times, Astrid
Picturit: I know, Lisl. And we are all aware of the problems and it is a challenge for many and a way of life smile
Astrid.
Until I read the text my first thought was why would you build a concrete digger. Now it all makes sense. It will take more than a bit of global warming to flood the Netherlands
Picturit: wouldn't that be great for me to make such a project HA... I hope you are right there, Bill. We do have great engineering.

A concrete excavator, how clever Astrid.
Picturit: Don't you just love it. I thought it is amazing and very clever made, Chad.
Astrid.
I never thought of such a worry. It must be built in somewhat.
Picturit: A daily worry, Mary, Ginnie and I live below sea-level.... 2/3 of the Netherlands is under sea-level..
Astrid.
It is a very good construction seeing as it is moulded from concrete.
Picturit: They did a great job making this loader... I was quite impressed, Brian.
Astrid.
WOW! That is amazing and even more so with your processing! Incredible tribute and reminder.
Picturit: Thank you, Robin. It helps to be on the bike and stop on a dime and capture the interesting things along the route. This is on a "biker-alone" route....

Interesting treatment.
Picturit: Thank you, I thought it fits the picture and the topic...
Astrid.
The Dutch have been dealing with water very effectively for some considerable time now! I'm sure there's a plan for global warming!
Picturit: There is a saying, Tom. "God created the world, but the Dutch created the Netherlands"..... and yes over many centuries they still have their act together.
Astrid.
Love the look you've given this. I only hope it's not leaning like that due to soft water soaked soil, Astrid. Good for you for being alert and on the look out for problems with the dikes.
Picturit: We have to be very aware of what is going on and in that regard we know a lot about water-management. Our King is very knowledgeable and loves the topic and support the people that has to do it.

This is a great picture. If this was alongside a normal car road, I bet someone would have smashed into it by now. Anyhow, keep your eyes peeled when cycling along the dikes.
Picturit: smile I will look on the road and off the road to find some things of interest. This came so unexpected that it took me a at least a 100 meter to stop and turn around... mostly my mind is "on empty" when I ride the bike. Thank you, Louis.
Astrid.
I like the conversion and the grain...
Picturit: Thank you, Larry. This was quite impressive.

I love your photo.

The history of the monument is really interesting, thank you smile
Picturit: Thank you, Cherry. It is. I think a lot of people who were not aware what happened in these small communities along the river and their battle against the water. A good thing that the government is doing a serious job to make sure all things are done for protection from the water.
Astrid.
