photoblog image .....Almost invincible.....

.....Almost invincible.....

DAF is a Dutch truck (and car) manufacturer......this picture shows part of the 1958 DAF YA 328.

DAF also made the first vario-matic, a car that drives as fast foward as backwards, we had a Dutch competition at TV 'Driving backwards and the CaravanRace'... little did they know.....it was top entertainment on TV back then........

This makes a nice photo, Astrid. An old neighbour of mine had a Daf variomatic....Until someone drove into it and destroyed it....
Picturit: Thank you, Frank. It were amazing cars, too bad it never worked on the "bigger"market. But a great car for a low-budget person.
Astrid.
Goodness! All that wiring makes me nervous!!
Wow - took a long time to find your name!
Picturit: I know I hid it too much I think, I am sorry. Sometimes I am "over enthusiastic".
I was impressed with all the wiring and after seeing the YouTube, I cannot imagine that it is healthy to drive this car.
Astrid.
That is a beautiful tangle of wires. A sweet shot.
Picturit: I was allowed to go into this garage of old army trucks and take pictures.
Astrid.

It looks like someone might have driven it [backwards?] into the sea, Astrid.
Picturit: HA, indeed. This was an attempt for a three picture bracketing (long time ago) I found this in the archives.
Astrid.
Man alive! That is C R A Z Y! And that second video looks like PURE craziness. Who thinks these things up????
Picturit: Leave it to the Dutch. The commentator was André van Duin, my hero and the things he made up were crazy. Leave it to the Dutch....grin..
Astrid.

Quel méli-mélo !
Picturit: Indeed, Martine, but so much fun.

This is superbly twiddled Astrid. The idea of a backward car race is TRULY DUTCH!
Picturit: Thank you, Chris. A 3 pictures bracketing and indeed, leave it to the Dutch to drive as fast backwards as forward....
Astrid.

This is mad Astrid, which means that I like it. I remember Daf but, are they still going.
Picturit: This is MAD indeed, Chad. Who thinks these things up???
There are only DAF trucks nowadays, the normal cars are collectors items.
Astrid.
Lots of lovely bits and pieces to play with. I couldn't even contemplate driving a car in reverse at high speed.
Picturit: Indeed so, Brian. When the first show was on TV it scared the heck out of them, they could go as fast forward as backwards....unreal... and so much fun
Astrid.

"De deurtjes werken zoals in een flipperkast."
Of de frapante opmerking tijdens een acteruit race "Dit is niet meer normaal, dit is niet meer normaal."
'Twas me almal een pracht. Zo-iets deden ze ook bij ons, in de stockcar races of met de caravans op de 8 baan.

En dan de keine DAF "bejaardewagens" in een race. Te gek.

The Doornse Auto Fabrieken sat on a goldmine as far as the variomatic is concerned, but apparently, they didn't realise that. Or maybe didn't know how to properly make fortunes out of the gearbox. So many cars have it nowadays.

According to the "clock" the truck did 1918 kms before it started to rust. Great shot though.
Picturit: André van Duin deed het commentaar bij die filmpjes. Hij is mijn grote held en hij maakte ook dat het een knaller werd met zijn commentaren.
Louis, this was fun to see so much destruction on TV. I remember that somebody saw his stolen caravan on TV and of course it was "een bouw-pakket" after the race...
Indeed I think they did not know what they had on their hands and maybe it was too much to handle.
This is an army truck, so much fun to walk around the garage.
Thank you, Louis as always.
Astrid.
I remember the DAFs with their belt drive. Then we had Leyland DAF here building trucks

I like the picture Lady P
Picturit: The big DAF trucks are still their, the normal cars are now collectors items...
Thank you, Bill.

i have seen those trucks a lot but never their cars, Astrid. it would be a test of patience to do repair work on those wires.
Picturit: I think nowadays we need a computer to repair a car as years ago we still needed tools. I would not know where to start either.
The cars are long gone, Ayush, collectors items.

That is an awful lot of wiring!
Picturit: Too much for my liking, a lot can go wrong...
Astrid.
It looks like a scene back to the future, beautiful gold color that pervades the image
Picturit: Thank you, Claudio. This was taken in a garage full of these military trucks.
Astrid.
Your sig took some finding today, Astrid!
Oh gosh...this is so YOU! Great!
Picturit: Ha you know me too well grin... Thank you, Robin.
Don't you just love it.
Astrid.
