interesting shot, Astrid. he must be very good with his fingers and i imagine after every bit of tuning, he had to play and verify?
Picturit: Now that you mention it, he never touched the keys to play and to be honest I had an appointment in the centre of Utrecht, I watched him maybe 5 minutes and asked if I could take some pictures.

Piano Tuners are wonderful to watch at work, Astrid, and I like you image very much.
Picturit: They have the 'absolute' hearing (we say in Dutch) what a job, they have my respect. And it is not often that you are face to face with a piano tuner.
Thank you, Ray.
Astrid.
Awe that's great! Love this image, Astrid!

C'est un travail de précision. Bonne année 2018 à  toi aussi !
I grew up with a piano in my home because Mom was an accomplished player, so I often remember a blind man coming to tune it. He also had perfect pitch...but also used a pitch fork, as I recall. So, needless to say, I LOVE this image (or both of them). You never told me about seeing this that day (you bugger)! smile
Picturit: I think tuners are amazing people and to me it was almost not doable to get the right tune here in these circumstances... the temperature and the moisture in the air must be havoc to the instrument. I must have just forgot to tell you, so much happened that day, Ginnie. And thank you as always.

This is skilled work Astrid, to do this you have to have a very finely tuned ear
Years ago a number of piano tuners were blind. I think the one who tuned Angie's mum's piano was.

I can't even tune my ukulele or guitar without an electronic tuner!

I always wonder at the skill of the piano tuner Astrid, and wish I could do it. Mind you, mine is electric ha ha. Happy New Year to you too.

What a wonderful observation- and I like a piano at the train station of Utrecht. I understand that you want to take a break from SC - I'll post less pictures a week in 2018, too. The best wishes for a healthy, inspiring, funny 2018 to you! It will bring some good change to you!
Well worth watching and recording the method.I do like your pesentation
A great shot of a very skilled man at work. As Bill said it used to be a job done by blind people for some reason. I've bought myself an electric piano this year, all I need to do is find time to sit down and learn to play properly once again! Have a great 2018, don't make your break too long, BTW it is my 10 year SC anniversary on Friday, doesn't time go quickly.
I have never seen piano tuning done in person so am happy to see this. I am sorry to hear you are taking a break. I will miss you.
Nice treatment... enjoy your vacation...
i just love your first image of the tuner and his tools Astrid... we get ours tuned twice a year... but it's not a baby grandsmile

I wonder if it will be a better Tune than 2017...
Picturit: We will find out at the end of 2018 wink, Cherry. For now I am thankful for each day given.

You have posh pianos on your stations, Astrid. Enjoy your break from Shutterchance, but come back soon!

Hw lovely that the piano is kept in tune. Let's hope that the players can match their performance to it. (Presumably is for anyone to bang out a tune?)
