Picturit: Thank you, Ray. These bundles have two purposes, one to protect the boats from getting in shallow water and to 'hang on' like the ferry does.
Around Venice they have water routes marked with these bundles of logs, it is a lagune with tides.
Astrid.
Picturit: We were on the water-bus around the 'main island' of Venice, we took the route not many tourists take. More to the industrial part of Venice.
Astrid.
This is fabulous, Astrid. I love that your crane is always ready to help out, no matter what.
Picturit: Thank you, Ginnie. I am so glad we took the 'other way around' route and we saw the more industrial part of Venice and yes my crane is always ready to go
Astrid.
Picturit: No, we weren't I doubt that the gondolas even come in this industrial part of Venice. We were on a waterbus that not many tourist take. However the things we saw were very interesting in our eyes.
Astrid.
This is an unusual Boat Friday in Venice. I like those bundles of logs!
Picturit: Thank you, Philine. We took the 'other way around' Venice with the waterbus and it shows the more industrial part of the city.
Those logs are something else. I kept looking at them.
Astrid.
Although they are big, the pilings don't look substantial enough to be useful, Astrid
Picturit: Most of the piling are used to mark the 'waterway'. Venice is in a shallow lagune with many waterways and these piles 'lead the way'.
Astrid.
I like the low angle Lady P.Did you take this from a boat?
Picturit: Thank you, Bill. We took the water-bus the 'other way around' Venice and came passed the industrial part. Lots to see. Very interesting to not be in the tourist part too.
Astrid.
Thanks for the explanation you gave Ray about these timbers sticking up from the water, I was wondering what their purpose was as well.
Picturit: We figured out that ourselves for we saw them all over the place and the boats kept the route in between these piles. You are welcome, Brian.
Astrid.
Picturit: Venice is one big Wabi Sabi.... and sinking... I was sometimes shocked, but you have to know the history and also that most inhabitants leave Venice, it is almost not livable anymore, tourists think it is an amusement park...
