Your compositional skills are amazing, Astrid.
Picturit: I take this as a big compliment, Ray, thank you kindly.
Astrid.
to me, the flower pots below the window ledges are very nice, Astrid. also the oval brickwork is unusual.
Picturit: There were a lot of house like these, this was located on some small courtyard. A lot of stones and plaster.

The trash seems place in an odd place for collection....
Picturit: To keep it from rats. These rats are all over the place (at night) and you don't want to feed them.

Je n'aimerais pas habiter dans cette maison.
Picturit: I would have loved to look inside and see how it looks, we stayed at a B&B in Venice and it was beautiful inside..
Astrid.
Nice comp', Astrid.
Picturit: Thank you Frank, this was taken on one of my rare alone walks early in the morning.... walking from one street into the other and after an hour check the map 'how to get home'.....
Astrid.
That's an interesting way to put out the trash - I suppose they don't have bins?
I like the color of the window shutters, and the brickwork!
Picturit: This is in the Jewish Ghetto (which is also the name giving to all the 'Ghettos' in the world). I noticed hooks onto the walls and on one of my early walks trash was hanging there, they do everything by cart in the streets of Venice and I think this odd place is for rats from the canals... when on the ground they may roam the street for food and tear up the bags. There are a lot of houses like this.

An odd collection of things Astrid, the place looks in need of renovation
Picturit: A lot of places look like this, Chris. This was in the Jewish Ghetto, however, all over Venice a 'little' renovation would not hurt....
Astrid.
With your reply to Elizabeth, it does make sense that the bags are raised! Good eye for this find (and name placement), Astrid!
Picturit: Thank you, Ginnie. This was on my walk through the Ghetto going to the far end of the island at the side of the cemetery.

That lower wall is something, Astrid!
Picturit: Indeed so, many wall were like this, I wonder if it had to do with the many flooding that Venice has...

I remember to have seen this quarter. It is good to hang up the trash in this way. Think of the lots of rats in Venice.
Picturit: I saw many bags like this. I would have loved to see the person collecting them.
Astrid.
I suppose the rubbish is hung up high to try and stop dogs and rodents from tearing the bags apart Astrid. Good illustration of everyday life.
Picturit: Thank you, Chad. I think it is for the many rats which roam the streets at night... you don't want to fee them.
Astrid.
The real Venice?
Picturit: The real deal, I walked the streets and after an hour I looked at the map and walked home. I will show more of that walk.
Astrid.

And gutteridge day. Excellent picture.
Picturit: Thank you, Louis. Chad was an opportunity that I could not let pass HA...
Astrid.
It was my bluebag day today too. The Venice method must keep the dogs away.
Picturit: Rats in this case.... there are a lot of them....
Astrid.
Lots of pipeage and wireage for Chad to look at there, and I like the old brickwork. What an unusual way to have to put the rubbish out though.
Picturit: There are a lot of rats in Venice and people don't want the rats to roam through the garbage. Most pipeage and wireage are outside the houses... like Malta I was fascinated with them.
Astrid.
well spotted Astrid... that iron barred door will only keep an honest person out...
a thief would climb up the gutteridge and go in through one of the windows....petersmile
Picturit: I doubt that a thief will climb that pipeage... it does not look that solid. Most houses had bars in front of their downstairs windows...
Astrid.
Pick up by canal barge I assume smile
Picturit: That was quite a walk and many bags were there, I would have loved to see the pick-up guy/woman and see them taking it to a big barge...
Thank you, Tom.
Astrid.

Now here in the UK most homes have wheelie bins; they would keep the rats out. Of course, though, there would be nowhere for the wheelie bins to go so its best you use refuse bags. I am alone in my street for using bags still as I do not want wheelie bins in my very small front garden (many of my neighbours keep there is the street which looks awful and makes walking on the pavements very difficult).
Picturit: We have those wheelie bins too and when you live in a 'normal' house, you have 3, one for paper, one for garbage and one for fruit/vegetable/organic waste. Ginnie and I even separate plastic which goes in one of the public dumping places (underground bins) I think we have 15 places in the city. Amazing how much plastic/tin the two of us have... and after that we also collect all the glass we have and also that goes in a separate bin in the city...
In Venice, I think they do everything in one bag and hallelujah with it..
Thank you Alan for your comment, always much appreciated.
Astrid.
Apparently they don't like their trash soiling the street... smile
Picturit: And I totally agree with them, they have rats allover... you don't want to feed them.
Astrid.
I can certainly see why they need to put their trash up away from the rats...which I'm sure are a plenty around all that water!! I've seen this often in my travels...I think it's very clever! Wonderful composition!
