photoblog image ......'Deadline'......

......'Deadline'......

The word 'deadline' comes from the prisoncamp Andersonville which Ginnie and I visited a few weeks ago. We also saw the movie 'Andersonville' the night before we went there. It left a deep impression with me and knowing that the 'South' never accepted that the 'North' won the Civil War explaines everything to me...

it looks like a very sad place indeed Astrid... i was touched by the images in the trailer to the movie...
and now there is another divide in that country that may take another hundred years to repair....petersmile
Picturit: This is a very sad place and when we walked there you feel the energy of what had happened, over time I will show some more. The pictures shown with the stockade is rebuilt, the rest of the grounds is a wonderful hilly grassland with a few things they rebuild to get the gist.
Astrid.
Looks peaceful for such an infamous site.
Picturit: Right now it is a big field with beautiful trees and a small river.
You would not know the terror that took place.
Astrid.
We've many things to be ashamed of...
Picturit: We too Elizabeth, I think every country had it moments of cruelties...we shipped Africans to the USA, together with the English.

An ominous row of stocks there, Astrid.
Picturit: Can you image the trees that were needed to make the stockade around this enormous field???..

What a place of misery this must have been. Does it still feel bad today?
Picturit: It looks peaceful however we sensed a lot of energy and knowing the history and seeing all these white 'deadline' poles it gives a sad feeling.
Astrid.
I'll never forget it either, Astrid. It's a part of our country's history about which I knew nothing. (sigh)
Picturit: It is amazing what happened there and that we did not know off, I am sure there are many of these paces all over the world that are kept quiet..

This is very interesting Astrid. Deadline is a word in common use but I have never considered its origin, and now I don't have to..
Picturit: It does give a whole new meaning to the word (for me)... In the movie it shows that some men who are tired of the whole misery walk into the deadline zone and are shot.
Astrid.
A very nice study of the situation Astrid!
Picturit: Thank you Richard, there are some more pictures to show over time.

a place that reminds me of our fences ...I have to read more about this prisoncamp and the American history. New fences will now be built as I heard on tv last night. Thank you for this photo incl. information!
Picturit: It is an amazing story and I think there is a lot written on the internet I think.
Astrid.
This could be a model for Trump's wall. Funnily enough I was watching a program about Lincoln and learned the meaning of deadline just recently!
Picturit: When we watched the movie I already wondered out loud if the word came from this prison, after one Google it was confirmed. That part of history is highly interesting... I think they still 'deal' with it....
Astrid.
This all looks rather grim Astrid, at first I thought that they were new flood defences around Gorinchem.
I had not known the origin of this word.

Tous les pays ont une zone d'ombre...
JP
I'm wondering if I watched the same programme as Bill, certainly the one I watched went into a lot of detail about the Civil War.

Tristes vestiges de cette guerre.
that is yet another wall, a really tall one... and one more is on the way?
I couldn't agree more with Elizabeth...we have many things to be ashamed of as I'm sure every country does. However, nothing tops what's happening today - or at least in my life time.
