....Kingsday 2015....

Today we celebrate King's-day, our King Willem-Alexander has his birthday today and tradition is out that we wear Orange today, we drink Orange Liquer (recepy from 1700) we try to sell our old stuff at the fleamarket.

Ginnie and I will be glued to the tube WITH koffie and Orange King's-day Tompouces.....

What gorgeous flower photos to celebrate King Willem-Alexander! And pretty yummy looking tompouce as well!
Picturit: Tompouces are tradition for Queensday/Kingsday... in one hour I will g to the bakery and get us some. At 11 the King will arrive in Dordrecht and I just hear on the news that at 6 AM the first spectators were already in the city to get a good view on the King and Queen.....
Thank you Elizabeth.
Astrid.
What a magnificent collage of the beautiful tulips with the orange ones used as a background Astrid...

did you know that in 1945... the Dutch royal family sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa in gratitude for Canadians having sheltered Princess Juliana and her daughters for the preceding three years during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, in the Second World War...
The most noteworthy event during their time in Canada was the birth in 1943 of Princess Margriet to Princess Juliana at the Ottawa Civic Hospital... my four grandchildren were also born theregrin

they still send tulip bulbs every year since then...

how is that for a Dutch connection...
Love....petersmile
Picturit: I did not know that your four grandchildren were born in the same hospital. The other story, we were taught in school, over and over. Our Queen Wilhelmina was in the UK to 'rule' the army/navy and have radiobroadcasts (illegal of course, Germany was not amused) Next Monday we have Memorial day, remembering the dead of the WWII (and now they added, all men and women died in combat or peacekeeping all over the world, on that day we don't like Germans in our Country, the next day, the 5th of Mai they are welcome again to celebrate our Liberation Day)
Princess Margriet and her husband often go to Canada for private visits and celebrations.
Thank you Peter. Canada and The Netherlands always had a good relationship and to top that of, my brother is a Canadian citizen with a Canadian passport smile and lives on Vancouver Island

Peter's comment is very interesting!
Picturit: There is no secret that Willem-Alexander wants to be a pilot, he has licenses to fly 'everything that can fly'. He often will fly the plane when they travel by KLM.
I also replied to Peter that Queen Wilhelmina stayed in the UK to 'rule' from there. Staying in the Netherlands was too dangerous for her.
Canada and The Netherlands were always close, many Dutch people live there, my brother became Canadian years ago.
Thank you Philine,
Astrid.

If I had been with you I would proudly wear my orange shirt, the one Bill Phillips doesn't like
Picturit: I am wearing my orange shirt too so we would match perfectly and today we don't care what Bill likes or not likes wink

My monitor just exploded!
Picturit: sad oops I am sorry, with Wednesday's post you might some extra light.
Astrid.
And THIS, my friends, is "more Dutch you cannot get!" I love it, MLMA! Soon I'll have my orange shirt on, too. I can hardly wait to see Queen Maxima!!!! grin
Picturit: ......and we just went there in time, now it is vacation time and many people are in the area to visit the flower-fields.
FUN day.... smile
Astrid.
Happy birthday king Willie! Enjoy you day
Picturit: Thank you Bill. It was one of those perfect days to celebrate, cold BUT very sunny.
Astrid.
In other words - You will be eating birthday cake. Wonderful flower photos, Astrid.
Picturit: Indeed, there is always an excuse to eat birthday cake grin... Thank you, Mary.

Such a colourful collage. The king will be proud of you.

I read the comment of peter and your reply. Interesting stuff. Did you know that the Canadian soldiers, in the time after liberation, fathered 50,000 children in the Netherlands?
Picturit: grin.... yes indeed, my dad's sister got one of those kids, never met them though. We often say "Trees met haar Canadees'....
I have to admit that, now we have a good relationship with Germany, but not on that one day... the 4th of Mai.
Astrid.
Happy King's Day!! Enjoy!
Picturit: We did, thank you. It was a wonderful sunny day and we enjoyed a nice walk in the afternoon, after a 3 hour TV broadcast...

It should have been Orange Mondag, I could have made my picture all orangey Astrid. Have fun drinking your orange liqueur.
Picturit: Thank you Chad, yes Orange Monday would have been more political correct, I think he will forgive me.....

Astrid.
A great collage, Astrid...
